RHS – How to Garden
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) have re-issued in a paperback edition their popular practical guide for new gardeners 'How to Garden'. Whether you are getting to grips with an existing garden or tackling a brand new plot, this book focuses on the techniques of gardening, rather than on DIY or hasty makeovers.
Published in conjunction with the RHS, 'How to Garden'contains all the latest thinking and expertise with tips and techniques that will give any novice a solid basis for all their future gardening.
The writing style is friendly and there is a refreshing realistic approach throughout - for example the book opens with photographs of achievable small gardens to motivate the beginner. There are excellent plant illustrations for a wide range of sites and situations making planning a garden both easy and enjoyable.
The layout is clear and easy to follow allowing the reader to dip in and out as they need. Each chapter highlights the essentials, making them easy to master with the demands of a modern life taken into consideration.
There is plenty of inspiration in this book and lots of simple schemes. All the basics are covered - everything from analysing your soil to growing from seed, planting and pruning. Plus you get unrivalled expert advice from the Royal Horticultural Society.
Although the book is designed for the beginner, as an experienced gardener, I found plenty to interest and stimulate me. A useful book which brings together everything a novice will need to start gardening and an excellent 'Aide-mémoire' for those of us with a little more experience.
Published by Dorling Kindersley (www.dk.com) 'RHS How to Garden' is priced at £14.99.
