Laurent-Perrier brings a Timeless Elegance to RHS Chelsea

Laurent-P-garden-imageEvery year Laurent-Perrier can be relied upon to produce an award winning garden at RHS Chelsea. For 2012 they will be representing the art of fine craftsmanship with the Laurent-Perrier Bicentenary Garden, designed by Arne Maynard.

The garden is inspired by Laurent-Perrier's 200 year heritage of time honoured methods and reputation for creating pioneering champagnes and will showcase exacting attention to detail with traditional and contemporary elements to display an everlasting elegance.

Arne is returning to RHS Chelsea after a 12 year absence – in  2000 in collaboration with Piet Oudolf he achieved Best in Show.  -  He makes his welcome return with a garden which promises to be a ‘real’ garden with a design that will sustain its splendour all year round. In a true situation the garden is one which would provide a regular supply of cut flowers for the house. In recognition of Laurent-Perrier's Bicentenary, materials have been chosen that link the design to the Champagne House’s French heritage, including a Parisian fossil limestone, which has been chosen for the boundary wall.

Arne is excited about returning to RHS Chelsea: "It is exciting to be back at the Chelsea Flower Show and I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with Laurent-Perrier on their prestigious garden. The garden is designed to be an inspirational yet achievable realisation of enduring elegance – something that can be grown and enjoyed in a real situation. The garden will bear fruit and provide flowers throughout the year, with each element having its time to shine."

The garden design will consist of an intricate pebble mosaic path leading to a secluded terrace. Renowned British sculptors, Alison Crowther and the late Breon O’Casey have contributed key elements respectively to the garden with a hand-carved oak bench and stylised bronze bird sculpture.

The planting will provide the structure of the garden with architectural pleached copper beech trees providing a centre of attention. Topiary arrangements have been formed to represent the gardener’s art, adding character and shape to the planting. An antique pear tree is a key focal point and the designer is using fast-flowing water to outline the garden adding movement and cool elegance.

All the plants and materials for the garden have been ethically sourced and once again Laurent-Perrier will team up with Mark Fane and his team at Crocus – a successful partnership which has seen Crocus win 16 Gold Medals at RHS Chelsea, 11 of which have been for Laurent-Perrier. Most of the plants from the garden will be available to purchase on-line from Crocus who will be writing a diary blog keeping readers informed on planting and providing an insight into the world of a Chelsea designer in the run up to the show.
