plantThe Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea 2011 Plant of the Year has been awarded to Anemone 'Wild Swan' bred by Elizabeth MacGregor and presented by Hardy's Cottage Garden Plants at this year's RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

The award is presented to the plant that members of the RHS Plant committees, sub-committees and Trial Assessment Panels consider to be the best new plant at the show. When considering the diversity of plants submitted for the award many criteria are considered including novelty and originality, excellence, impact and appeal to the public at large.

gwyneth-paltroe-2The excitement in the run-up to the 2011 RHS Chelsea Flower show was both palpable and energising and you felt that perhaps this year there was going to be something extra special about the world's most famous flower show. Obviously a feeling shared by a lot of people because the Show was an early sell-out with tickets apparently changing hands in a frenzy akin to football mania!

To say that this is probably the best Chelsea Flower Show I have been to in the last several years is no idle comment. Despite all the climatic problems of the last few months, exhibitors have managed to produce some of the most stunning gardens to take us on a world tour of the best that horticulture can offer.
